Walk and Talk

One of the best ways to get some exercise with the seniors in your life is to explore local parks and take a walk.  The Morris County Park Commission has 18,800 acres with 150 miles of beautiful trails to offer.

Several of these parks are wheelchair accessible such as Loantaka Brook Reservation which can be accessed from either Morris, Harding or Chatham Townships. There are paved trails with amazing scenery within the 8.16 miles of trails.

Central Park of Morris County located 91 Central Ave in Parsippany Troy Hills is also wheelchair accessible with 1.1 miles of paved trails.

Some other Morris County destinations are the beautiful Frelinghuysen Arboretum at 353 East Hanover Ave in Morris Township. This is the perfect place to take a relaxing stroll while enjoying some of the 127 acres of woodlands, gardens and meadows. There are many educational programs as well as special tours and events regularly held at Frelinghuysen Arboretum.

The Great Swamp National Wildlife refuge is always a favorite place to take a walk with it’s 2 miles of flat trails where you can experience views of the marshes and swamps that are such an important part of preserving the natural habitat here in New Jersey.

For a little history, consider a visit to Cooper Gristmill at Black River County Park in Chester Township, Fosterfields Living Historical Farm located in Morris Township which is a working farm or Historic Speedwell in Morristown.

With numerous events throughout the season there are a myriad of opportunities to get out and explore so plan to take your loved one on a walk and talk on the next gorgeous day that you spend together.
